Camo shirt: {5} Ways

As I mentioned in my Five on Friday post last week, I recently purchased a camo t-shirt... a trend I did not think I would be keen on/nor see myself  jumping on board with! When I happened to stumble upon the perfect camo tee though, I found myself falling in love with something I once booted to the curb.
Here I have for you five ways that I decided to style this top!
Camo top shown in all these styles is from Target.

one || "Plain Jane"
Just the tee and a favorite pair of jeans with a comfy pair of flats!

Jeans: Old Navy || Flats: Old Navy || Earrings: (old)

|| two ||
A leather jacket and some kick butt wedges make this look!

Leather jacket: Forever 21 || Jeans: Old Navy || Wedges: TJ Maxx

|| three ||
Staying comfy in this maxi skirt and tee!

Sweater vest: Aeropostale || Maxi skirt: Meijer stores || Sandals: K-Mart

|| four ||
Going glam with this touch of sparkle and some heels!

Necklace: Jane || Black skinnies: Express || Heels: Target

|| five ||
Sporty and relaxed with some distressed jeans and sneakers.

Cardigan: Old Navy || Jeans: American Eagle || Coach shoes: Tj Maxx

How have you styled the camo trend?
Do you have a trend that you never thought you would like but now love?

Thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day!

(Note: I LOVE hearing from you so please leave a comment! Just know, I respond to all comments via email so please do not think I am ignoring your love!)

Oven Roasted Asparagus

What doesn't say Spring/Summer better than fresh fruits and vegetables??
I love vegetables grilled on the grill with some chicken or steak! I also really enjoy going to the farmer's market to get my produce.
Since Michigan is not quite cooperating with the Spring weather (it's been rainy and chilly here the last few days) I decided to make some asparagus in the oven last night and it was so yummy!!!

Oven Roasted Asparagus

What you need:
  • Bunch of asparagus
  • Olive oil
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Minced garlic
  • Sea salt & pepper (to taste)

Make it:
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • If needed, trim asparagus.
  • Place the asparagus in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle on Parmesan cheese and garlic. Toss to coat.
  • Place asparagus on a baking sheet and season with sea salt and pepper to taste.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, until tender.

My husband and I enjoyed this with some grilled chicken! The heads on the asparagus were nice and crispy and it had so much yummy flavor.

What is your favorite way to prepare fresh vegetables?

Enjoy something yummy today!

Five on Friday: 5.25.14

Hellooooo Friday!!!
My husband and I have been putting in a lot of extra hours at the hospital and life has just been a rollin'.... sorry I have been slightly neglecting my bloggity blog!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to all of you who have left some of the sweetest comments! I love hearing from each and every one of you! Totally makes my day! :)
Welp... on to my list for Five on Friday!

one |  So, I have a question for all of you.... when it comes to comments do you reply via email or reply on the comment on your blog? I have been struggling with this because I once read that you SHOULD reply by email but to me then that looks like I neglect my comments and do not acknowledge them. I have been torn lately on what to do. Any comments, suggestions, or preferences by anyone?

two |   I love funny animal pictures on Pinterest, especially cat ones! Here are a few of my recent favorites!

three |  Last week or so I won a gift card to Flourish Boutique from Steph @ White Coat Wardrobe's blog giveaway and I finally got a chance to pick some things out a couple nights ago! It was super hard as they have so many items! I love their shop! The other night I wore their Blushing Ballerina flats that are featured on my side bar and they are SO comfy! It was my first time taking them for a spin and normally flats give me a little bit of a blister the first time I wear them but not these.
Check out their awesome site!

four | One trend I never thought I would jump on board with was camo but I recently found a "nice camo pattern" comfy tee at Target and could not resist getting it. Maybe camo is already on the way out but I am excited to mix and match it in to my wardrobe! Check back next week for some ways I have styled this trend!

five |  Less than 20 days and my husband and I will be on a beach in the Dominican for one week with a drink in our hands and good friends by our side! I CAN NOT WAIT!!! WOOO!!

Chicken Salad Recipe

Chicken salad is the perfect, light summer snack or meal! A friend and co-worker brought this combo in to a potluck one night and I loved it!! What I love most about this recipe is that it doesn't use any mayo! (Thanks Kim!) The versatility of it is awesome too! You can eat it as a sandwich on a croissant, as a snack/dip with crackers or bread, or as an appetizer in some phyllo cups!

What you need:

  1. Sweet vidalia onion dressing (approx. 1/2 cup, or to taste)
  2. Shredded chicken
  3. Grapes (approx. handful, cut up)
  4. Celery (approx. 6-8 stalks diced up)
  5. Sliced alomonds (approx. 1/2 2.25 oz. bag)
Make it:
  1. Mix everything together and enjoy!!
**This recipe does not have exact measurements, it's more to your taste and for how big of a group you are making it for!

Liebster Award

This blogging thing has been getting more and more exciting! I am loving it! Last week I received an awesome little surprise when Leslie from the Martin Manifesto nominated me and my little blog for the Liebster  award!!

So, what is this Liebster thing I am referring to!?! It is an award that helps promote other small, up and coming blogs to readers and is given from one blogger to another. The award gives a shout out to blogs that are just getting up and running in hopes that it will draw more attention to their blog and grow their numbers. I am SO grateful that Leslie decided to nominate my baby blog for this award {thank you, thank you, thank you girl!!} It really makes my day to know that people actually read my posts and enjoy coming back to the blog to see what is new! :) I have gained so many new blogger friends in the short time I have been doing this blog gig and I love it! THANK YOU again Leslie!!!!

There are a few rules that come along with the Liebster Award:
  1. Acknowledge your nominating blogger. {I have already mentioned her above but go check ou Leslie's page  she is super cute and has some awesome Leslie Loves (recommendations for things such as the best hand bag for Spring!)}
  2. Answer the 11 questions the nominating blogger has listed for you.
  3. List 11 random facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate up to 11 small blogs {fewer than 200 followers} that you follow and believe in promoting.
  5. Post 11 questions for the bloggers you've nominated.

I will start by answering Leslie's questions:

1. Why did you start your blog?
My blog started out as an outlet for me as my husband starts Nurse anesthesia school this fall. I love fashion, food and networking and figured that starting a blog would be a great way to express myself while he is busy studying!

2. What is the most rewarding aspect of blogging? the most challenging?
Most rewarding: Gaining new followers and hearing people say: "I love reading your blog!".
Most challenging: Knowing what to post sometimes and growing my blog audience.

3. Of all the blog posts you've written, which is your ultimate favorite and why?
I really like my first blog post that I did, introducing my blog. I look at it as a celebration of a new beginning and a new journey!!

4. What is your "must have" beauty/hair product?
I love my Pureology products!! I especially like my Pureology 21, it has 21 benefits and smells great! I love using it as a leave in conditioner for my hair.

5. What is the best gift you've ever been given?
Ohh... this is a hard to just choose one thing. My sister put together a photo book of our wedding/honeymoon in Mexico and I love it because I enjoy looking back through it and reminiscing about the memories we made!! Such a great idea and keepsake item!

6. What is the highest priority on your bucket list?
I would love to travel to Europe someday!

7. Who is your style icon?
Yasi from Hello, Gorgeous Blog!! Her sense of fashion and what she pairs together is amazing!! She has great style!

8. What is your guilty pleasure?
Two things: Biggby coffee and shopping! I am addict of both!!

9. What is the best advice you ever received?
I once read the quote  "Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle" and I believe it is SO true! I also find this super helpful when it comes to my blogging; I cannot compare myself to other bloggers that have been doing it for years when I have just started out. Clearly I will not have as many followers and be as good at it as they are! Really, we should not compare ourselves to anyone at any point in life and just be happy with who and where we are and what we have! Comparison will only create jealousy and more negative energy.

10. If all jobs paid the same and you had the education/skills to do ANYTHING you wanted, what would you do for a living?
I would love to open my own cute little clothing boutique! I would really enjoy helping customers piece together outfits that they may not have normally picked themselves.

11. Which U.S. city is your favorite to visit?
This is also a hard one but I would say it's a toss up between Austin, TX (such a FUN city with lots of live music and just a great vibe!) and Fort Myers Beach, FL (I love the beach town feel and relaxed atmosphere).

Now, 11 random facts about me!

1. I love to travel!!
2.  I like sleep. I enjoy sleeping in and taking naps. I can take a nap any time of the day especially quick 20 minute power naps!
3. When I was little I wanted to be a teacher from like 1st-7th grades.
4. I have way too many online boutiques that I shop at! :)
5.  I used to be very afraid of dogs and would not get out of the car if there was a dog at the place we were visiting. I was bit in the face by a dog when I was 5 which caused this fear. I overcome that fear and now have 2 of my own!
6. I grew up in a very small town on a small beef farm.
7. I like to dance and occasionally have a friendly dance off every now and then at the bar!
8. I hate doing the dishes and would be lost without my dishwasher!
9. I wish I knew more about being a "green thumb" and landscaping.
10. I enjoy checking the mail every day even if there is not anything I am expecting.
11. I like roller coasters and for awhile made a trip to Cedar Point every year for like 5-6 years!

My 11 questions for my nominees to answer:

1. What or Who has been your biggest inspiration for your blog?
2.  If you could be any celebrity, who would you be? Why?
3. Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?
4. If you won the lottery, what is one of the first things you would?
5. Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?
6. How do you grow/promote your blog? Any tips?
7. What is your favorite meal to make?
8. If you could travel to anywhere, where would it be?
9. Do you have a favorite book that you have read? If not a reader, favorite movie?
10. Cat or Dog?
11. What is your biggest next step/decision in your life?

Lastly, my nominations:

Lindsay @ Broke and Bougie
Mary @ Mary from the Mitten
Jessi @ Jessi's Design
Amanda @ Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Style
Brittany @ Perpetually Daydreaming

Weekend Recap: "Livin' with my ladies, hash tag Live"

Have you heard the new song: "#SELFIE" by The Chainsmokers?
It is too funny!! It has a fun beat and talks about taking selfies and silly girl talk.
At first I wasn't too sure about it but it has kind of grown on me!
Check it out here.

This past weekend was the bachelorette party for one of my best friends (whose wedding I am in, coming so soon, in May!!) and this song inspired my title for today's blog post as Saturday night was a ladies night out on the town in honor of her! Here is a recap of the night via photos! The night was too much fun complete with jello shots, a party bus, bull riding, plenty of dancing and a rowdy bar!

Did you have a good weekend!?!?
Did you do anything fun and exciting??
Hopefully you enjoyed the beautiful weather!
